Greeting from the JNB Chairman

Greeting from the JNB Chairman

Shaun Chiam Khai Seong

Chairman

Dear Members,

We can all understand that COVID-19 pandemic has made it extremely difficult for the government and private school students to study overseas. This has also affected our operations in both education and cultural promotional activities.  Nonetheless, we are dedicated to face these challenges head on so that we are allowed to move forward.

First, I would like to express my thanks to the JAGAM Northern Branch committees and members for their constant supports. They’ve spent their precious time developing and executing various JAGAM activities despite this difficult time. Their hard work and labour allowed the JAGAM Northern Branch to continuously promote in Educations, Cultures, Sports and Businesses via online learning, from as early as the 1st of May 2021.

One key activity that I would like to highlight is their successful effort in bridging schools from Malaysia and Japan through school exchange activity. The schools involved were  Jit Sin High School and Penang Girls Private High School from Malaysia and the Toyohashi Higashi High School from Japan. JAGAM Northern Branch had successfully organised this school exchange activity twice in the year 2021.

This is a proof that we are able to grow successfully by adapting to the “new norm” of the world. Growth is imminent, so long as keep our mission close to heart and have both integrity and ethics in everything that we do.

We always welcome the return of Japan Graduates Students to join us in our endeavour. JAGAM Senpai (先輩, “senior”) and Kouhai (後輩, “junior”) here have a special system in place within the association, to allow members forge a closer relationship. Activities like playing the Weekend Ground Golf or something as simple as speaking the Japanese Language with each other, just like how we would do it in Japan.

2022 is a special year as it marks the 40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy (LEP), a policy initiated by Malaysia in 1982. I would like to declare that JAGAM Northern Branch will wholeheartedly work together with Centre Branch, Southern Branch and Japan Branch in promoting a mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between Japan and Malaysia. Filled with commitment, we will work together hand-in-hand to achieve this goal.

I would like to end my note today by expressing my sincerest gratitude to all our members. With our full commitment to work together, I am confident that our values and reputations will be preserved long into the future. Let’s look forward to a successful year of 2022.
