JAPAN EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI RELIEF FUND

Presentation of a mock cheque amounting to RM652,867.91 to Japanese Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Masahiko Horie was held at the Ambassador’s Residence on the 26th April, 2011. The fund will be channeled to Japanese Red Cross Society for the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami victims in Japan.

Those present at the presentation ceremony were Sin Chew Daily Editor-in- Chief Mr. Pook Ah Lek, General Manager for corporate communication & corporation, Ms. Lenny Chiah Len Fong, Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia ( JAGAM) President Mr. Phua Lee Kerk, Secretary General Mr. Goh Nge Seung, JAGAM Central Branch Secretary Ms. Choo Min Fong and Assistant Treasurer Ms. Joan Wai Kim Foh.

As of 19th April 2011, the total funds from the joint donation collaboration between Sin Chew Daily and JAGAM, was estimated to be close to 2 Million Ringgit which included some donations that were pledged and awaiting collection. During the meeting on the same day, it was unanimously agreed that RM700,000 from this fund to be channeled to the Buddha’s Light International Association of the Malaysian Chapter and RM300,000 to be channeled to “ Crisis Relief Services & Training Bhd ( CREST ) “ to support the ongoing relief work already mobilized by these organizations, onsite in Japan.
Further, it was unanimously decided that the balance of the funds, if any, to be channeled later to the Northern Myanmar earthquake victims and the underprivileged and poor children living there.
